J
ourney into Miniatures
When Adelaide was about 10 years old she saw the most amazing doll collection.  There were more than sixty dolls dressed in their country of origin ranging in height from 1" to 16".  From then on she was smitten with dolls, in particular, dolls under 3" tall.
She started making tiny dolls in various mediums then at about 15 detoured into sewing.  A fashion design career was decided on but did not materialise, various sales operations roles in the IT (Info Technology) it was to be.

Now that her sons have grown up and flown the nest she can spend more time on her miniature obsession.  She has many miniature rooms in various stages of completion and enjoys collecting furniture in various period styles, tiny teapots, toys, rocking horses, prams, baby dolls, clothing and haberdashery.

Inspiration comes from many aspects of Adelaide's life, from the people she meets day to day to the websites she visits in search of new miniature project ideas.  In her spare time she likes to share her enthusiasm and expertise tutoring workshops on her miniature creations.

Adelaide says there are many pluses in being involved in miniatures.  It keeps you fit walking around miniature shows, your mind active and hands busy but beware, it may obsorb all your spare time, become addictive and keeps you poor.

Miniature Rooms

Her signature miniature room is The Blue Room created in May 2005 and was designed to showcase blue and white china and glassware.

Adelaide's workroom has some wonderful room boxes mostly of her own design, all superbly finished and decorated.  The innovative lighting systems make the room boxes independent of the power point, so they can be illuminated wherever they are.

Gallery

New as at Feb 2012 are Gruff the Teddy Bear and Punch and Judy Theatre shadow box.  Gruff is made from chenille pipe cleaners and is playing drum that was a christmas decoration.  Punch is a jointed porcelain doll just unde 1" tall.  The background for the theartre is a collage of different types of P&Js.  Toby the dog is dressed up with a pointy hat and neck ruffle, very cute.

Two of her favourites are Pink Room, an elegant ladies dressing room featuring silk draped dressing gown and Ballerina's Trunk.  She made the trunk then filled it with items she has made and collected.  The pink cardi was knitted on pins by Gail Gibson who is a very talanted miniaturist.
